Pennsylvania senator John Fetterman may be best known for his sloppy, unkempt dress, but in recent days, he has made headlines for occasionally stepping out of his party’s line. He seems to be the only Democrat politician who does not have TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome). While he is still wrong, in my opinion, on many issues, to his credit, he has at least shown a willingness to think independently of his party and not adopt all of the Democrat talking points.
Fetterman made headlines as the first sitting Democrat senator to visit with President Trump at Mar-a-Lago. When pressured about this decision several weeks ago, Fetterman responded with a sensible remark, rejecting the need for a gatekeeper by stating that he was the senator for all the people of Pennsylvania.
Fetterman continued to leave everyone scratching their collective heads when he appeared on various news networks and refused to join the outrage over the president’s decisions, citing the reality of Trump winning the presidency and the need to deal with these decisions. He later appeared on The View, the low-IQ propaganda show. To the hosts’ dismay, he did not jump on the “I hate the idea just because comes from Trump” bandwagon. Fetterman made headlines again Tuesday as the only Democrat senator to vote to confirm Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Here are a few observations:
It is easy to judge someone and be wrong.
Many have assumed Fetterman to be dumb. He is not. During the midterm election, when Fetterman was running in a closely contested race, he was the punchline of many jokes. I wonder how many are laughing at him now.
People can grow.
I do not know what kind of senator Fetterman will end of being throughout his career, but we should be reminded that people can grow. People can evolve over time as they are exposed to the truth on different issues.
He seems sincere.
I completely disagree with Senator Fetterman on several issues. However, he seems to sincerely desire to serve his constituents. That is a refreshing change. There are many Republicans who do not sincerely serve their constituents but instead cater to their own motives. I am trying to take in consideration what I would believe if I had grown up in an unsaved home and been educated in the public school system of a liberal school district. Referring back to my previous observation about his sincerity, I pray he continues to grow and correct his views on several liberal policies.
I wish Senator Fetterman would lose the hoodie and shorts and put on a suit and tie to give proper dignity to the office he serves. At the same time, I would like those who wear suits and ties to show, on occasion, that they will do what is right for their constituents and not pander to their donors. It will be interesting to see what transpires in the future with Senator Fetterman. I do not agree with him on some major issues.
